Općina Tešanj nalazi se na području između centralne i sjeverno – istočne Bosne i Hercegovine, dok prema teritorijalnoj organizaciji Bosne i Hercegovine pripada sjeverno – zapadnom dijelu entiteta Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine, i jedna je od dvanaest općina

Zeničko – dobojskog kantona, općina predstavlja sjeverno – zapadni dio kantona. Današnji teritorij općine Tešanj je određen Dejtonskim mirovnim sporazumom Bosne i Hercegovine od 1995. godine,Ustavnog zakona novih općina u Federaciji BiH i na taj način nakon osnivanja nove, poratne, granice, teritorij općine Tešanj je smanjen sa 223 km2 na 163 km2.

Najnovije procjene Federalnog zavoda za statistiku pokazuju da Općina Tešanj ima 46,345 stanovnika, koji žive u 40 naselja, a organizirana je u 25 mjesnih zajednica.

Tešanj municipality is located in the area between central and north – eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, while according to the territorial organization of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it belongs to the north – western part of the entity Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and it is one of twelve municipalities of Zenica – Doboj Canton, a municipality representing the north – western part of the canton. The present territory of Tešanj municipality is determined by Dayton Peace Agreement for Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1995. year and by the Constitution Law of the new municipalities in the Federation of B&H and thus after establishing the new, post-war, borders, the territory of Tešanj municipality decreased from previous 223 km2 to the current 163 km2. The latest estimates of the Federal Bureau of Statistics show that Tešanj municipality has 46.345 inhabitants, living in 40 residential areas, and organized in 25 local communities.
